Naturally, life can be stressful, and no matter how we try to manage and contain stressful activities and events, we may still find stress here and there. Due to the prevalence of anxiety in society, and the increased risk associated with uncontrolled pressure, we see the world is now oversaturated with too many ways to manage stress.
I remember, one of the first times I read the Bible with a keen eye for understanding. I discovered then that the Bible is the combination of all the knowledge in the world, in one book. That’s why in anything I do; I always first seek the wisdom of the Bible. It is from that wisdom that I have generated four powerful ways of managing stress.
4 Ways to Manage Stress
1. Have Faith
Faith has always been a big word, but for me, it is as simple as it can get, we have to “Trust in God.” Trust that He loves us, trust that He cares for us, trust that He has all the power in the world, trust that He will not let us down, and believe that no matter our pain, He wants the best for us. When we trust His words and His promises, we will be all good (Numbers 23:19). The thing is, for us to build our trust in God; we need to have a relationship with Him. And a relationship with Him starts from being born again.
2. Do not be Covetous
We should refrain from being greedy, and we need not seek what we cannot have, or what we know is not ours to have. We should not do our own will. I once knew someone that gambled, and this caused so much stress. This issue prompted me to seek out the Bible verse that says, “But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs”. – 1 Timothy 6:9-10 (ESV). What this verse signifies is that the desire to have it at all cost and fast, can cause us stress and like the Bible rightly puts it “pierced themselves with many pangs” that is many griefs.
3. Leave it There
What troubles us?, What causes us so much work and less result?, what gives us unnecessary worries?, what takes away our joy?, whatever they may be, combine them all together and tag the combination “cares” that is all the cares and worries of life. Then we can do as the Bible says, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” – Psalm 55:22 (ESV). And as we do this, we should remember the word of God that says “For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” – Matthew 7:8 (ESV).
GIVE ALL CARES TO
THE LORD TODAY
4. Try Patience
As we have faith, avoid greed, and cast all our cares to God, without being in a hurry; God will honor our patience. We have seen this in the life of Job and Abraham. Their legendary patience won them unlimited favor and eternal glory. Basically, our stress can be reduced drastically by doing Gods will and not ours (Matthew 11:27-30).
